Immortality

We attended a funeral of a friend this morning. She was a friend of ours from church and was in our SS class. A wonderful woman of God with a servant's heart. Yesterday when we talked about her in SS there was a common thread that kept reappearing: she always thought more about others than herself. Becky was only 67. She had breast cancer twice in the past and really helped Mom last summer when Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Becky's cancer returned last fall and quickly spread from her chest wall to her liver and bones. She died on Thursday night at 5 PM. Up to the very last she loved Jesus. Our pastor told the story of how last Wednesday when the hospice nurse arrived she said, "I don't have much time, do I?" The nurse told her that unless the Lord did a miracle, she did not have much time. Becky took the nurse by the hand and began to pray for her - asking the Lord to give her wisdom in taking care of her. She was quite the lady! She faithfully cared for her 40 year old handicapped son and was still raising two boys (one pre-teen and the other a teenager) that she and her husband had adopted. Please pray for this dear family if the Lord brings them to mind. They are obviously devestated and in need of the Lord's comfort.

Going to funerals always helps me focus on the eternal things. The stuff that is really important like bringing people to Jesus Christ. I want to spend my life telling others about His salvation and about His victory over the grave!!!

"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:51-58
